  Jiayuguan Pass

Brief / profile
With an area of 33,500 square meters, beJiayugan pass is the most intact surviving ancient military building as well as the best preserved pass among all the passes of the Great Wall.

Location

Jiayuguan Pass stands at the narrowest point of the western part of Hexi Corridor and 6 kilometers southwest of Jiayuguan City in Gansu Province.

Why got its this name

It got this name owing to one of its surrounding hills Jiayu.

Construction
Jiayuguan Pass has 2 gates: one is on the east side of the pass while the other is on the west side. There’s a building on each gate. The south and north sides are linked to the Great Wall. In addition, it has 3 defense lines: an inner city, an outer city and a moat. The inner city contains the largest building of the pass and the outer city is surrounded by a large wall with watchtowers, pavilions and turrets. The last line is the moat used for defense. All of these make the Jiayuguan Pass a great wonder.
