Geography
Situated on the upper shore of the Yellow River, Lanzhou is the capital city of Gansu Province, the transportation center as well as the Silk Road Tourism Ring.

Area of Lanzhou
As one of the largest cities in the northeast, this city covers an area of about 16,000 square kilometers.

Lanzhou History
Once called “Gold City”, it has a history of more than 2,000 years. In the ancient time, Lanzhou used to play a vital role on the well-known Silk Road. This city became a major spot for Buddhist learning during the period from the 5th to the 11th century and got the present name in 1656 during the Qing Dynasty. When Gansu became an independent province in 1666, Lanzhou became its capital.
