Red Hills

Brief / profile
As a symbol of Urumchi, the Red Hill is made up of aubergine rock with the length of 1.5 km and width of 1 km from east to west. This hill is 910 meters above the sea level.

Location
It’s located in the center of Urumchi.

Why got its this name
This scenic spot got this name thanks to its reddish brown color.

Architecture / Structure / Each scenery.
The Red Hill is across from Yamalike Hill. There’s 9-story Zhenlong (means to subdue the dragon in Chinese) Pagoda built with gray brick on each hill. The pagoda is 10.5 meters high with 6 faces and an octagonal roof. At the foot of the Red Hill silently runs Urumchi River. Once mounting the top of the hill, you will have a panoramic view of the whole city.

Legend and Story
In addition, there’s a legend on this scenic spot: there was a red dragon fled from Heavenly Lake in the past. Later, the Heavenly Empress got caught of him and cut him into 2 parts with her sword. After a period, each part of his part became a hill. The western hill is Yamalike Hill while the eastern part is Red Hill. Besides, the sword became the Urumchi River.

Present condition
Nowadays, Red Hill turns to be a beautiful Red Hill park with modern entertainment facilities.

Admission fee.
The admission fee is RMB 10.

It’s open to the public from 10:00 to 21:00.
