Hami Introduction

Hami Geography
As the eastern gateway to Xinjiang, Hami is a fertile oasis between Gansu Province and Turpan and occupies an area of 79,000 square kilometers.

Area of Hami
This little town is located in the east of The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 595 kilometers away from Urumchi.

Hami History
Called Kunmo in the ancient times, Hami was renamed Yiwulu in the Han Dynasty. The office of the Yihe prefectural General was established here in the Eastern Han Dynasty and the prefecture of Yiwu was stationed here in the Northern Wei Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, the prefecture of Xiyi was here and named this place Yizhou prefecture. This place was called Hamili belonging to Gansu Province in the Yuan Dynasty. During the reign of Emperor Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, the Hami Fortress was set up and Hami prefecture was finally founded in the 24th year of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. In 1913, it became a county.
