The Wei-Jin Art Gallery is renowned as the largest subterranean art gallery in the world boasting a large number of colorful murals on the stone walls.
Location
It lies in a barren section on the outer boundary of the Gobi desert, over 20 km northeast of Jiayuguan, Gansu Province.
History
More than 1,400 tombs were built between 3rd and 5th centuries during the Wei and Jin Dynasties.
Architecture / Structure / Each scenery.
Most of the tombs are household tombs placing 3 or 4 generations. Entering the stone tomb, you must be impressed by the vivid animals and unique scenery inside. Each tomb usually has 2 or 3 chambers with the connection of a corridor. The corridors are paved with tiles. The delicate murals on the walls tell different sceneries and figures and most of the scenes reflect the cultural, military and scientific development in the Wei and Jin Dynasties.
